Free Radicals - What they are and what you can do to prevent their harmful effects.
A Free Radical is a molecule that contains an oxygen atom that is missing an electron. This reactive molecule can't rest until it replaces that missing electron and does so by taking a bite out of another molecule therefore damaging a cell in your body. There are many causes and sources of free radicals in our environment: smoking, pesticides, radiation, pollution, stress, rancid fats, etc. Free Radicals attack the DNA and Cancer Results, says Professor Hari Sharms, MD of the Ohio State University College of Medicine. Regarding Arthritis, Dr. Willix states that "Arthritis occurs when our immune system makes a mistake and attacks our body's normal tissues".
You may know about these Dangerous Free Radicals. They are unstable toxic compounds, created by oxidation and the loss of an electron during normal activities but increased by foods high in fat or sugar, toxic chemicals, and polluted air and water. Like a gang of thieves, they run through your body stealing electrons from healthy cells, causing you to age faster, and increasing your risk of cancer and many chronic diseases. 60,000,000 Free Radicals are produced every time you smoke a cigarette.
